What is a charter school?

Public charter schools are public schools open to all students. They are free (do not charge tuition) and do not have special entrance requirements. Charter schools are not religious and cannot discriminate against students on any basis. Public charter schools have more flexibility to ensure that the school itself is able to assign staff and choose the curriculum that best fits the needs of their community.

What is the Ardmore Community Academy?

The Ardmore Community Academy is a public charter school designed for students in grades Pre-K through 5th grade focused on academics, community and identity to empower students to achieve their highest potential. Students will experience a literacy-centered environment from the first day of Pre-K.

Who will sponsor the Ardmore Community Academy?

The Ardmore Community Academy is seeking sponsorship from Ardmore City Schools’ Board of Education. Our hope is to deepen our relationship to best serve the literacy needs of the students in our community.

When will the Ardmore Community Academy open?

Once approved by the Ardmore City Schools’ Board, the Ardmore Community Academy will begin serving students in Pre-K and Kindergarten in the fall of 2018.

What grades will be served? How many students will be served?

The Ardmore Community Academy will ultimately serve students in grades Pre-K through 5, beginning with 50 students in Pre-K and Kindergarten in the fall of 2018.

Who is allowed to enroll?

All students who live within the boundaries of Ardmore City Schools would be allowed to participate in our lottery for spots in the incoming class. If seats remain after all interested ACS district students enroll, then seats will be made available to non-district students through a similar lottery process.

How can I enroll?

Families may submit applications to join the lottery for Pre-K and Kindergarten seats from January through March 2018. Those drawn from the lottery will receive first option to enroll for available seats in April of 2018 Specific dates will posted here and on Facebook in fall 2017.

How is this school funded? Does this school decrease funding for Ardmore Public Schools?

The Ardmore Community Academy, like Ardmore City Schools, will receive funds from the Oklahoma and the U.S. Department of Education to meet student needs. The one distinction is that Ardmore City Schools receives tax revenues, regardless of the number of students enrolled. The Ardmore Community Academy seeks to also pursue grants to supplement our funding.
